Thank You To McElroy Bates
In 2022, I decided to work with a designer, Lori Churi of LCID to renovate my home built in 1986. In Phase 1, I wanted to completely renovate all 4 bathrooms, replace the prominent stairway banister going from the first floor to the second in our entryway, do some trim work on the stairs and carpeting, replace the hearth in our living room and replace the chandeliers in the entryway that were provided by the original builder. Lori suggested that I work with Christopher Bates of McElroy Bates. She explained that they were a relatively new firm, but Lori worked with Christopher at another firm. She said he was the man for the job. She could not have been more correct.
Christopher and Emily Amend worked together to get bids for all of the work that was necessary to accomplish the project outlined above. There were approximately 15 subcontractors. When some of the bids came in a bit higher than I expected or liked, they worked with me to lower the costs to what was acceptable. They told me how long they thought the job would take and gave me a detailed spreadsheet outlining the timing of the work. Despite the framing of one of the showers taking a bit longer than planned and the cabinet maker trying to paint some of the cabinets in 100 - degree heat causing the paint to bubble, having to be stripped and be repainted, they finished a very complex remodel on time in 5 months and on budget. I could not have been more pleased.
Emily handled all of the billing. She is extremely professional and provided each subcontractor invoice, markups for the general and explanations of variances or unusual aspects of the bills if they occurred. Their construction contract was reasonable and fair for both sides. She communicates well and is very pleasant.
Christopher was on site during the 5 months that the remodel took. We lived in another home in Oregon while the remodel was occurring but visited monthly to check progress first-hand. Every Friday, Christopher sent me pictures and a description of the work that was accomplished that week. He paid attention to security matters, locking up, leaving electricity on for wine coolers and refrigerators etc. Christopher works very well with the subcontractors. He has a fantastic eye for detail and executed the plans and minor decisions that came up during construction very well. Punch list items were promptly accomplished at times that made sense for Christopher and me. Protection of the existing house was a priority and cleanup was excellent. The designer’s plans were implemented perfectly. I smile when I go into any of our bathrooms now. I love the look of the remodel in our entryway and living room. I could not be more pleased. This remodel was for our family to enjoy, and we do because Christopher and Emily executed the designs to perfection. I could not be more pleased. I absolutely give Christopher Bates and Emily Amend of McElroy Bates my highest recommendation.
